TMJ ( Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) or JAW JOINT THERAPY AND TREATMENT

Saying temporomandibular joint dysfunction is a mouth full and yes it can be extremely painful. TMJ or jaw joint pain can interfere with essential daily tasks, which can include eating, speaking, yawning, and even your sleep cycle. Either one or both sides of your jaw can become a constant source of irritation leading to serious pain including headaches, migraines and misalignment. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms including clicking or popping Dr. Tatyana Nudel can help restore your mouth with TMJ therapy.

TMJ Disorder

TMJ disorder covers a variety of different issues that affect your temporomandibular joint. Essentially the pain you are experiencing can vary but it is simply being caused by the movement of the jaw joint and the surrounding muscles. TMJ acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull.

You are absolutely a candidate for an appointment if you are having the following:

  • Jaw pain
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Feel clicking and locking of the jaw joint
  • Having difficulty opening your mouth.
  • Lockjaw
  • You may also experience symptoms that do not seem to have anything to do with temporomandibular joint, including chronic headaches and earaches.

What causes TMJ?

TMJ can be a result of any number of things. How you ended up with the dysfunction isn’t as important as recognizing you have it and having the experience to bring back your quality of life.

Whether you were involved in a past or recent auto accident, slip, fall, or an old sports injury, TMJ if left untreated will only worsen overtime. You may even be grinding your teeth in your sleep and all you may need is a simple mouth guard but you won’t know until we see you!

What Are My Treatment Options for TMJ?

Once we have accurately diagnosed your TMJ, Dr. Nudel will recommend a treatment plan that will provide you with the best possible results.

TMJ treatments Options :

Mouth guards (or oral splints). These devices are used to treat bruxism. The guards hold your jaw in alignment which provides a soft buffer when the muscles in your jaw tighten. The guard eases muscular tension while protecting your teeth.

Invisalign. If TMJ pain is caused by misalignment, Invisalign or other orthodontic treatment, can be effective.

Physical Therapy. Chronic TMJ pain that keeps coming back regardless of treatment may be eased with physical therapy.
